Violinist Justyna Briefjes: you've probably seen her many times, sitting prominently next to the Principal of second violins. That is now a thing of the past, because recently Justyna herself became Principal.

One takes a mysterious patron, a composer who meets his end far too soon and a mysterious completion. Voilà, these are the exciting ingredients for what would become one of Mozart's most famous works: his Requiem.

But as our old contrabassoon approached its well-earned retirement, the Residentie Orkest found itself in urgent need of a new one...

Simon Vandenbroecke: our new bassoonist

Simon Vandenbroecke, our new second bassoonist, started his work at the Residentie Orkest last August 1. In lilting Flemish, he is happy to tell you about his musical journey from the calm Flemish countryside to hectic The Hague.
