Looking back on the Sing-Along Messiah in The Hague
In December 2025, the Residentie Orkest organized the Hague Sing-Along Messiah Residentie Orkest the first time, a new community project in The Hague. With more than three hundred singers!
The Residentie Orkest to be relevant and meaningful to all residents of the city, from all walks of life. We achieve this through various into the city projects into the city RO in the city) and in collaboration with community partners. We believe in the power of music as a tool for bringing about positive change and connecting people.
In addition, we organize various participatory projects in which amateur musicians and singers of all ages and from all neighborhoods can participate. We see that the amateur sector is struggling due to the closure of music schools and the many budget cuts to culture. Cultural participation has been declining for years; the number of Dutch students at conservatories is falling, and so is the number of Dutch musicians on professional stages and in orchestras. And this despite the fact that we know cultural participation is so incredibly important. Every resident of The Hague should be able to develop their creative talents throughout their lives after school. Cultural participation promotes diversity, inclusion, and The Hague’s appeal.
To promote cultural participation, the Residentie Orkest has developed Residentie Orkest number of different projects that we will continue to develop and roll out this season and next, such as:
• The Hague Sing-Along Messiah
• Symphonic Mob Participatory Concert
• Workshop days for amateur musicians, such as the Wind & Percussion Day (June 6, 2026) and the String Workshop Day (date to be announced in 2027)
• The Amateur Arts Festival
In collaboration with the Education Department, we also carry out many participatory projects, such as:
• Residents City Orchestra & The Residents ensembles – including performances into the city at Children’s Music Day.
• Notes Beats & Bars, featuring the Residents Academy and other participatory projects for young people (ages 14–27).
Keep an eye on this page to stay updated on all these projects.

Wind and Percussion Day Residentie Orkest Jong KC
The number of amateur wind players has declined significantly over the past three decades, and many associations and orchestras are finding it increasingly difficult to recruit members and musicians. That is why we have decided to launch a day dedicated to wind and percussion instruments in the 2025–2026 season. On this day, we aim to offer amateur wind players various workshops led by (instructor) wind players from the Residentie Orkest. In the coming years, we plan to organize these types of workshop days more frequently, and next season, for example, we will focus on string players.
Saturday Saturday , June Saturday , 2026
On Saturday , June Saturday , hundreds of wind and percussion players will take Amare the third and fourth floors of Amare for the first RO & JKC Wind and Percussion Day. Through various workshops, lessons, performances, and play-ins, the Residentie Orkest Jong KC aim to musically support and inspire these wind and percussion players.
