A new tradition in The Hague

Looking back on the Sing-Along Messiah in The Hague

In December 2025 Residentie Orkest the Residentie Orkest organized the Residentie Orkest Hague Sing-Along Messiah, a new community project in The Hague. More than three hundred singers stood on the balcony of the Amare Concert Hall Amare sing Residentie Orkest of Handel's world-famous Messiah together with the Residentie Orkest . And of course, the famous Hallelujah was not missing!

For weeks, singers of all levels and ages came together in different parts of the city (in Theater de Vaillant, Library & Culture Anchor Ypenburg, Muzee Scheveningen, and Open Amare), with one common goal: to sing together. During the grand finale, they stood in Amare Concert Hall , side by side with KZV Excelsior and the Residentie Orkest, and felt what it was like to sing Handel's Messiah together: grand, intense, and connecting. Under the direction of Chloe Rooke, everything came together. This project shows what music can do: connect people, lower barriers, and create space for encounters.

"I found it quite exciting because rehearsing was difficult. But with all those rehearsals, you really get guided through it and I learned a lot too."
