The Residents Stadsorkest & The Residents Academy at the Prinsjesdag Concert
At the traditional Prinsjesdag Concert , The Residents Stadsorkest and The Residents Academy played along with the Residentie Orkest. Led by Kerem Hasan, they sounded the theme from the movie "The Avengers."
The Residents Academy is part of the larger project The Residents of the Residentie Orkest. In this learning orchestra project, elementary school pupils from vulnerable neighborhoods in The Hague receive weekly lessons on an instrument and regularly play together in an orchestra.
The Residents Stadsorkest is mainly about having fun making music together. The young orchestra members can enjoy the sociability of an orchestra, and sit 'first Section' to admire the beautiful sounds of the professional musicians playing along. The children, of course, also take music lessons themselves. Not necessarily from sheet music for which you need to be able to read notes, but mainly by ear. While playing, they learn the pieces by listening, imitating and improvising. Singing, moving and clapping are also an important part of the lesson.
Students who want to continue with us after elementary school (and elementary school students who want and are able to do more) can attend The Residents Academy. There are three groups in The Academy: woodwind, brass and strings.
