RO NOW
The Essence
of Beauty

This concert is part of the Top Pianists series.
In this unique edition of RO NOW, we will embark on a quest to explore the essence of beauty together. We'll cover everything from aesthetics, art and kitsch to personal taste and inspiration.
Mendelssohn and Rachmaninov, too, drew inspiration from what they saw as beautiful in their endless pursuit of the extraordinary. They found it in the rich culture, music and stunning scenery of Italy. It inspired them to bring new beauty into the world in the form of the magnificent music we will enjoy this evening.
This evening is a unique opportunity, and not just because of the extraordinary music we will hear. We'll also invite you to reflect on the concept of beauty together. It's an evening that will hopefully bring us all new insights and inspiration!

Rachmaninov & Mendelssohn
Since winning the prestigious Queen Elisabeth Competition in 2010, master pianist Denis Kozhukhin has taken the world by storm. He enraptures audiences no matter where or what he plays. As recently as 2022, he dazzled Amare with his performance of Rachmaninov's Second Piano Concerto. This evening will see him return to The Hague with another piece by Rachmaninov, his Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini – undoubtedly one of his best works. You will experience Italian passion and drama like never before, especially during Mendelssohn's sunny Italian Symphony. Leading us on our musical journey through Italy is German conductor Ruth Reinhardt, a high-profile new face on international stages. She has already conducted major orchestras worldwide, but this will be her first time with the Residentie Orkest.
"Listening to Kozhukhin, you're left with one thing: the music - incontestable, complete"

Beauty Talk
How can beauty be defined? How does it move us? Does it exist? We know that when we experience beauty suddenly, it envelops us with happiness. But why it happens, and how, that remains a mystery. Led by Yuki Kho, these three experts shine their light on this mysterious phenomenon. With their very different areas of expertise, this promises to be an exciting conversation.
Director of Museum Voorlinden, Suzanne Swarts, did the Academy of Fine Arts in Maastricht and then studied art marketing at the University of Groningen. In 2006, she became curator of the Caldic Collection, the art collection of Joop van Caldenborgh. Together with him, she built Museum Voorlinden in Wassenaar, which opened its doors in 2016. From this position, she gives relevant contemporary art a stage. We are curious if beauty plays a role in these choices.

Cosmetic physician Drs. Robert Schoemacher is the leading doctor in the field of cosmetic treatments in the Netherlands. With over thirty years of experience, he is the specialist in the field of injectables. You probably know him because of his many TV appearances. The author of the book Beauty is on the outside brings a very personal view of the concept of beauty.
