The Residents on The Hague Children's Music Day

On Saturday April 5, the Residentie Orkest traditionally joined The Hague Children's Music Day in the Atrium of City Hall. Teachers from the Residentie Orkest kest and from Theater Fanfare Kunst voor het Volk sat between performances for a great Instrument Garden. Children from all over The Hague enjoyed making music on clarinet, flute, brass instruments, violin, cello and guitar. In addition, children could join percussion workshops by RO teacher Sander van Elferen and a DJ and rap workshop by the Hague Hiphop Center. At the information market, visitors could learn more about all kinds of music associations and institutions in The Hague.

After performances by the Hofstads Jeugdorkest, our own Notes, Beats and Bars and Phoenix Wateringen, The Residents closed the day together with the children's choirs of Zingverhalen. Under the direction of Emiel Semmekrot (The Residents) and Monique Harteveld (Zing Stories), 130 children performed upbeat repertoire including the Fruit Canon, Top Gun, Adios Nonino and the Loved Bullós. Sometimes the audience contributed with body percussion and singing. The performance ended with the Children's Music Week song, performed by singer Joy Taal from The Hague.
