Looking back on Smetana & Schulhoff
On February 6 and 8, two musical worlds stood in sharp contrast to each other in Smetana & Schulhoff. Smetana's broad, lyrical lines gave the evening an open and familiar atmosphere — music that breathes and effortlessly carries you away. Schulhoff brought a completely different tension to the piece: more direct, more restless, and full of sharp accents.
A special role was reserved for mezzo-soprano Barbara Kozelj, who lent extra depth to Schulhoff's music with her intense presence and expressive voice. Her contribution made the sharpness and urgency of this repertoire palpable throughout the hall.
It was precisely this variety that gave the program its power: music that flowed and scraped, that let you drift off into a dream while keeping you alert. An evening that lingered long after it was over.
