Retrospective on RO NOW: Sibelius & De Graaff

With Ardemus Saxophone Quartet and Marzena Diakun

A world premiere for The Hague during the kickoff of our RO NOW series. Jan-Peter de Graaff wrote a dazzling Concerto Metropolitain for the Residentie Orkest and the Ardemus Saxophone Quartet, which sounded for the first time at Amare on Saturday, Oct. 19. Sibelius' Fifth Symphony was also performed. The presentation was in the hands of Christiaan Kuyvenhoven.

According to NRC , De Graaff explores "the relationship between man and machine, the lyrical and the mechanical, between proliferation and efficiency" which then "produces an exciting soundscape." The "tightly driven" Residentie Orkest was led by conductor Marzena Diakun. Enjoy some more with these beautiful photos taken by Wouter Vellekoop.
