Looking back on Rufus Wainwright & Residentie Orkest

With Danielle de Niese & Carice van Houten

Last weekend, there was a party in The Hague, Utrecht, and Eindhoven. The one and only Rufus Wainwright, accompanied by the Residentie Orkest how pop and classical music can reinforce each other. Grand orchestral sounds, intimate songs, and Wainwright's unmistakable flair made for concerts full of emotion, humor, and theatrical beauty.

Under the inspiring direction of Clark Rundell, the Residentie Orkest played Residentie Orkest from various operas by Rufus Wainwright, soprano Danielle de Niese performed an impressive version of the Five Shakespeare Sonnets, and Carice van Houten, together with De Niese and Wainwright, ventured into a true world premiere: Unperfect Actor. According to De Volkskrant, it was " a daring but successful marriage in which a snare drum dance beat drives the strings." After the intermission, pop hits such as April Fools and Oh What a World were performed.
