Review of Mahler 5

With violinist Simone Lamsma and principal conductor Anja Bihlmaier

On Friday, Dec. 13 and Sunday, Dec. 15, Bruch's unsurpassed Violin Concerto No. 1 and Mahler's world-famous Fifth Symphony sounded in an almost sold-out Concert Hall from Amare . The Residentie Orkest was conducted by our chief conductor Anja Bihlmaier.

Almost no grander work than Mahler's Fifth Symphony. This musical epic takes the listener from death back to life - the struggles overcome, the pain worked through, to an eventual beautiful ode to that love. Bruch's romantic First Violin Concerto is an excellent pairing. With the amazing Simone Lamsma, this was one of this year's highlights!
