Looking back on 120 years Residentie Orkest

On the weekend of Nov. 20-22, 2024, the Residentie Orkest celebrated its 120th anniversary with two nearly sold-out concerts in Amare led by our chief conductor Anja Bihlmaier. On Friday evening, Mayor Jan van Zanen congratulated the Residentie Orkest in his opening remarks and praised the orchestra's visibility throughout the city in many different projects.

The anniversary was made even more festive by the presentation of the new Steinway-grand piano to the orchestra, made possible by many donors and the Association of Friends of the Residentie Orkest. The grand piano was immediately played by Javier Perianes in Schumann's Piano Concerto . Before it sounded the One Minute Symphony: BIrds aren't real by Virág Anna Virág composed especially for this evening and Ligeti's Concert românesc. The intermission was followed by a dazzling performance of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony. Enjoy some more with these beautiful photos, taken by Wouter Vellekoop.
