Slave to the Rhythm. In his Seventh Symphony, Beethoven conjured with dancing rhythms and conjuring passages. Unheard of cinematic music with which Beethoven celebrated the mystery of life. The Residentie Orkest and their chief conductor Anja Bihlmaier pull out all the stops for this tour-de-force. Together with the Spanish string quartet Cuarteto Casals, the orchestra takes a foray into the 21st century and surprises with Adams' unique Absolute Jest.

Beethoven's Seventh is one of his great successes. A symphonic journey through various moods and delights. The ominous "Allegretto" pops up with great regularity in feature films (from The King's Speech to X-Men), while the subsequent upbeat "Presto" is sure to get the feet off the floor. Every performance of the Seventh Symphony is an event.

The combination of string quartet and symphony orchestra is rarely seen on the concert stage. John Adams wrote his Absolute Jest (2012) for the San Francisco Symphony. An overwhelming six-movement extravaganza in which string quartet and symphony orchestra feverishly swap places. The versatile Cuarteto Casals plays all the world's stages with their Beethoven and Mozart recitals, but has also specialized in Adams' exceptional work.
