The best symphonic music,
short and sweet!
RO NOW:
Sibelius &
Tchaikovsky
This concert is part of the RO NOW series.
RO NOW brings your classical music evening to life. Before the concert, our host and the orchestra offer a few short, illuminating musical examples to prepare your ears for what’s to come: a programme full of surprises, guaranteed to brighten up your weekend. After the concert, you're welcome to stick around in the foyer and enjoy more music. First drink is on us!
Sibelius’s The Swan of Tuonela opens in a world that barely stirs: a soft, dark current of sound over which the English horn sings a lonely, almost timeless melody. This is music that seems to breathe rather than tell a story – mysterious and hushed, yet quietly charged with tension. Then the light bursts forth in Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1: the famous brass opening, the sweeping chords, a lyrical line that winds like a river through the orchestra. Everything here is grand, warm and romantic, with a soloist who effortlessly brings freedom, power and finesse together. A compact programme that feels like a complete journey.
