The best symphonic music,
short and sweet!
RO NOW:
Sibelius &
Tchaikovsky
This concert is part of the RO NOW series.
RO NOW brings even more life to your classical music evening. Before the concert, our host, together with the orchestra, will share a few brief, insightful examples to prepare your ears for what’s to come: an always surprising program guaranteed to add a touch of brilliance to your weekend. Feel free to stick around after the show: the music continues in the lobby, the drinks are chilled, and the first round is on us.
Sibelius’s The Swan of Tuonela opens with a world that barely moves: a soft, dark stream of sound over which the cor anglais sings cor anglais lonely, almost timeless melody. It is music that lives rather than tells a story. Mythical, tranquil, and yet charged with tension. Then the light bursts forth in Tchaikovsky’s First Piano Concerto: the famous brass opening, the fanning-out chords, the lyrical line that winds through the orchestra like a river. Everything here is grand, warm, and romantic, with a soloist who unites freedom, power, and finesse into a single gesture. A short program that feels like a complete journey.
