Love is the glue that holds people together. But what happens when a loved one’s mind begins to fade and memories grow dim?
Red Foxoffers a glimpse into three very different relationships affected by the loss of memories. The opera brings to life how memories shape our identity, and how love can endure even as the shared past fades. A mythical fox weaves these stories together, adding a magical dimension to the opera.

Composer Du Yun won the Pulitzer Prize for her earlier work*Angel’s Bone*. Together with librettist Royce Vavrek and director Barrie Kosky, she has created a new opera that brings together influences from pop music, Chinese folk music, and the European classical tradition.

Du Yun is a Chinese-American composer known for her eclectic musical language. For*Red Fox*, she is collaborating with the highly sought-after librettist Royce Vavrek and director Barrie Kosky. Kosky is known worldwide for his imaginative productions and has previously directed productions such as*Tosca*and*Turandot* at the Dutch National Opera. The cast consists of a group of versatile performers, including sopranos Annette Dasch and Evelyn Herlitzius. They are joined by baritones Bo Skovhus and Alexander de Jong, tenor Ya-Chung Huang, and soprano Qian Yi, a specialist in the traditional Chinese opera style (Kunqu). Countertenor John Holiday plays the role of the fox.
