A pianist not to be missed
Nikola Meeuwsen performs Prokofiev
This concert is part of the "Top Pianists" series.
This evening is a celebration of musical artistry. Nikola Meeuwsen, the pianist from The Hague who in 2025 became the first Dutch musician to win the prestigious Queen Elisabeth Competition, will perform the work that brought him worldwide acclaim: Prokofiev’s astonishingly demanding Piano Concerto No. 2. Joined by the Residentie Orkest and the energetic American conductor Andrew Grams, this promises to be an evening brimming with passion and finesse.
The programme revolves around mystery, power and character. The evening opens with a fresh new work by the young composer Max van Platen. This is followed by Prokofiev’s stormy, monumental Piano Concerto No. 2, which allows Meeuwsen to showcase his virtuosity and poetic sensitivity. The concert concludes with Elgar’s iconic Enigma Variations – a warm, witty, and at times deeply moving gallery of musical portraits. Guest conductor Grams, celebrated for his infectious energy and clarity of musical vision, unites these three musical worlds into a single, compelling evening.
