A pianist you have to hear!
Nikola Meeuwsen performs Prokofiev
This concert is part of the "Top Pianists" series.
This evening exudes exceptional musical artistry. Nikola Meeuwsen—the pianist from The Hague who, in 2025, became the first Dutchman to win the prestigious Elisabeth Competition—will perform the work that brought him worldwide fame: Prokofiev’s exceptionally demandingPiano Concerto No. 2. Together with the Residentie Orkest the energetic American maestro Andrew Grams, this promises to be an evening full of passion and finesse.
The program revolves around mystery, power, and character. We open the evening with a new composition full of fresh timbres by the young composer Max van Platen. This is followed by Prokofiev’s stormy and monumentalPiano Concerto No. 2, in which Meeuwsen showcases his virtuosity and poetic sensitivity. Finally, we’ll hear Elgar’s iconicEnigma Variations: a warm, witty, and at times moving gallery of musical portraits. Guest conductor Grams, beloved for his infectious energy and clear musicality, forges these three worlds into one compelling evening.
