Every year around Easter, several performances of Bach’s oratorio are held at the Pieterskerk in Leiden. The Pieterskerk in Leiden is delighted by the growing interest: music lovers from all over the country come to Leiden to enjoy this highlight of music history in the beautiful setting of the Gothic church.
In 2027, the Residentie Orkest Haag, the Netherlands Chamber Choir, and the Haags Matrozenkoor will perform the St. Matthew Passion at the invitation of the Pieterskerk in Leiden. The Netherlands Chamber Choir a household name for over eighty years and has ranked among the world’s best for decades. Netherlands Chamber Choir , the Netherlands Chamber Choir has already caused a sensation with its performances of the Christmas Oratorio at the Pieterskerk in Leiden: the concerts draw full houses and have garnered praise from both the press and the public. The renowned Residentie Orkest Haag demonstrates that symphonic music remains of great significance to a large and diverse audience even in the 21st century. The entire performance is led by conductor Jan Willem de Vriend.
