Cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason makes his debut
Haydn & Mendelssohn
This concert is part of the Symphonic Friday - Medium series.
Sheku Kanneh-Mason—one of today’s most talked-about young cellists—makes his debut with the Residentie Orkest. His warm tone and thoughtful playing style resonate worldwide, from Harry and Meghan’s royal wedding to major concert halls. Together with conductor Jonathan Bloxham and a brand-new Dutch composition, the Residentie Orkest presents Residentie Orkest fresh, versatile, and profound program.
A new beginning, an open perspective, and progressive music. The evening opens with a world premiere by the young composer Amarante Nat. Kanneh-Mason then performs Haydn’s Cello Concerto in D, full of refinement, clarity, and playful adventure—a delightful canvas for his lyrical tone. We conclude with a sparkling finale: Mendelssohn’s Italian Symphony , featuring sunny rhythms and that characteristic sense of lightness.
