A traditional Christmas classic
Handel's Messiah
The tradition continues: each year, we invite one of The Hague’s exceptional amateur choirs to perform Handel’s Messiah at Christmas. This year, we welcome the Residentie Bachkoor, outstanding young soloists and conductor Chloe Rooke. Together, they bring this iconic oratorio to life, with its choral music, arias and world-famous “Hallelujah”.
Messiah is a journey through faith, hope and redemption. Rather than telling a story through characters, Handel used verses from the Bible, shaping them into three parts: birth, death and resurrection and eternal praise. The alternation of powerful choruses and intimate solo moments creates a rich musical tapestry that moves listeners and performers alike – an ode to hope and human connection in the closing days of the year.
