Wonderfully compelling
Dvořák's Symphony No. 8
This concert is part of the Symphonic Friday - Large series.
A breath of fresh air is sweeping through Amare: Brazilian-Swiss conductor Eduardo Strausser makes his debut with the Residentie Orkest. An energetic orchestral wizard, he exudes musicality from every fiber of his being. Together with top cellist Julian Steckel, he delivers an evening brimming with unexpected nuances. Warm, compelling, and above all: irresistible musical craftsmanship.
Rossini opens with the sparkling overture to La Cenerentola: a light comedy in orchestral form, full of rhythmic verve and brilliant ensemble sparkle. This is followed by Shostakovich’s fascinating First Cello Concerto, a compact masterpiece in which ragged humor and raw intensity alternate. A ferocious scherzo, the sorrowful elegy, and the chilling finale. Finally, you’ll hear Dvořák’s Eighth Symphony, pure natural beauty set to music: birdsong in the woodwinds, sunny Bohemian melodies, and a finale that sparkles with joie de vivre. Under the baton of Strausser, we look forward to a captivating evening.
