A breathtaking musical landscape
Bruckner's Symphony No. 4
This concert is part of the Symphonic Friday - Large series.
We journey from an intimate, romantic world to a symphonic panorama. In his Second Violin Concerto , Prokofiev lets the instrument sing, at times dreamily, at others with sharp, incisive turns; Jackiw makes it personal and immediate. Bruckner then displays the grand gesture: cathedral-like sound, brass that glows, woodwinds that move like morning mist. His Fourth Symphony is not a story, but a landscape: turbulent, lyrical, and breathtakingly vast.
This concert connects the deeply personal power of violin romanticism with the monumental horizon of the symphony. Prokofiev’s Second Violin Concerto offers an intense dialogue between soloist and orchestra, at times tender, at others dramatic, full of Russian passion and refinement. Bruckner’s symphony unfolds across four movements with subtle themes, lyrical adagios, and impressive brass moments: an epic steeped in medieval romanticism, full of mystery, melancholy, and ultimately hope. You experience the contrast between the intimate and the universal, the small gesture and the vast horizon.
