Simone Lamsma is back in The Hague
Bruch & Schumann
This concert is part of the Violin in the Spotlight series.
A debut by the young conductor of the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra and a world-class Dutch violinist: this is a concert where everything comes together perfectly. German maestro Elias Grandy, acclaimed for his refined, energetic approach, conducts the Residentie Orkest for the first time. At his side is Simone Lamsma, a beloved soloist with us for many years and one of the most expressive and precise violinists of her generation.
The afternoon opens with the “ ” overture to “Genoveva, ”in which Robert Schumann showcases his unique, harmonically rich language: stormy, dramatic, and yet transparent. Then, Lamsma performs Max Bruch’s First Violin Concerto . A work that owes its enduring popularity to the perfect blend of lyricism, warmth, and compelling tension. The program concludes with Schumann’s Second Symphony, a work he composed during a period when his health was failing him. The music seems to rise from that struggle: from dark, tense lines to a finale full of breakthrough and light. The famous chorale melody in the adagio forms the emotional heart of the symphony: comforting, tilting toward hope.
