A thrilling masterpiece
Berlioz' Symphonie fantastique
This concert is part of the "Top Pianists" series.
We kick off the festive month of December with two iconic masterpieces. The internationally acclaimed Yeol Eum Son returns to the Residentie Orkest with Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 – a work that swings between ecstasy and melancholy, showcasing Son's phenomenal technique and poetic touch. The composition demands both physical daring and deep expression, and Son excels at both. Under the baton of chief conductor Jun Märkl, this is a concert that resonates from the first note and reveals the artistry of world-class musicians.
Each work invites you into a different world of imagination. Rachmaninoff draws you in with expansive melodies and that instantly recognisable, bell-like opening, while Berlioz breaks new ground with his cinematic Symphonie fantastique, a bold experiment that forever reshaped Romantic music. Together, Son and Märkl reveal how the piano's brilliance and orchestral fireworks complement each other, creating a rich and thrilling musical experience.
