A tribute to 200 years of Beethoven
Beethoven's Symphony No. 5
This concert is part of The Fab Five series.
Beethoven died two hundred years ago: a milestone that calls for a grand tribute. In this concert, you’ll hear his irresistible energy in three completely different forms: playful, sparkling, and monumental. Richard Egarr, a connoisseur par excellence, leads the orchestra with passion and adventure, while pianist Dejan Lazic shines in the youthful Second Piano Concerto. A tribute to one of the greatest of all time.
Beethoven’s indomitable imagination takes center stage. The theatrical overture *Die Geschöpfe des Prometheus* sets the tone with dancing rhythms and an almost unexpected lightness. A young composer responds with a specially written *One Minute Symphony XL*: a contemporary nod to Beethoven’s daring and bravura. This is followed by the musical highlight: the Fifth Symphony, a masterpiece that moves from struggle to victory. Egarr builds the work as a grand musical argument—alert, charged, and tingling with tension. This anniversary year promises to be a truly special experience.
