This concert is part of the Symphonic Friday - Small series.

Led by conductor Daniel Raiskin, the Residentie Orkest has put together a surprising evening. We celebrate the great Dmitri Shostakovich fifty years after his death with his Sixth Symphony. A fascinating work: whimsical, ironic, biting. But first hear the premiere from the pen of Max Knigge, and the expressive musical world of Grieg's Piano Concerto - one of the most famous works for piano and orchestra.

Dutch composer Max Knigge brings a new work to The Hague. Knigge is a storyteller of the young Dutch guard. His musical language is exciting, dynamic and comes very close. And another musical storyteller will be heard today: Edvard Grieg. Soloist Antti Siirala takes his place at the grand piano to perform the Norwegian romanticism of Grieg's Piano Concerto. The famous opening keys and arpeggios transition into an intimate, dance-like beauty. A perfect counterpart to Shostakovich's Sixth and thus a versatile and surprising concert.

This concert is part of Festival Dag in de Branding.

Eliza May by Max Knigge is made possible in part by Performing Arts Fund NL and Société Gavigniès.

"We live in a free period artistically, you can do whatever you want as a composer"

- Max Knigge

Composer Max Knigge wrote Eliza May for the Residentie Orkest, which will premiere the work Friday night, Oct. 10, at Amare. Festival Dag in de Branding spoke to Knigge about his latest work.
