A true gem for
music lovers
Schubert's
Octet

This concert is part of the Close Up – Complete series.
Franz Schubert's Octet is bursting with lyricism, colour and playful energy. Composed in 1824 at the request of a Viennese nobleman who played the clarinet, it brings together strings and winds in a unique way. In this exceptional setting, with the audience seated around the ensemble, the music feels joyful and refined as well as intimate and introspective.
Inspired by Beethoven's Septet, Schubert took the concept further, crafting a six-movement work that is as charming as it is symphonic. His melodic genius shines through in refined dialogues between violin, clarinet, horn and bassoon, supported by the rich depth of viola, cello and double bass. His unique instrumentation gives each instrument its own voice, while at the same time weaving the music into a harmonious whole. The melodies are lilting and almost vocal in nature, echoing Schubert's gift for songwriting.
New for the 2025/26 season, this concert will be performed in a 360° setup.
