A unique encounter
Close Up:
Mozart & Spohr
Close Up is chamber music at its best: an intimate concert where you, as a visitor, sit in a 360° arrangement around the musicians and can experience the music up close.
Musicians from the Residentie Orkest Mozart's Piano Quintet and Spohr's Nonet to life in a program that celebrates color and virtuosity. Both works offer a fascinating contrast: Mozart's classical elegance and refinement versus Spohr's romantic warmth and expressiveness.
Mozart's Piano Quintet, composed in 1784 at the beginning of his most creative period, is one of his most remarkable works. It is no coincidence that he himself called it "the best work I have written" – well, up to that point, perhaps. Written for piano, oboe, clarinet, horn, and bassoon, this piece combines lush melodies with brilliant instrumentation. Each instrument has a chance to shine, while the piano part ties everything together in a warm and harmonious texture. The Nonet by Louis Spohr, a lesser-known but no less fascinating composer, continues the program. A masterpiece of chamber music dialogue, in which strings and winds alternately support and challenge each other with refined melodies and sparkling rhythms.
