A timeless tale
St Matthew Passion
The story that moves and transports us every time: the St. Matthew Passion. Follow the Last of Jesus Christ, walk with him through betrayal, suffering, forgiveness, and redemption. Johann Sebastian Bach's St. Matthew Passion is a moving tribute that we perform every year in the week before Easter: one of the composer's longest and most complex compositions, full of symbolism and musical rapture.
Fourteen stations of the cross, twelve apostles, seven days of creation, four evangelists, and the holy trinity. The story of the Last of the Son of God has deeper layers of interpretation and continuous wonder. Bach wrote music with a tremendous arc of tension in which choir and orchestra work together, complementing or challenging each other. Peter Dijkstra conducts an unmissable combination with a cast of fantastic soloists, the Netherlands Chamber Choir the boys' voices of the Hague Sailors' Choir.
