Groundbreaking music
Le Sacre du printemps
Antony Hermus, guest conductor and great friend of the Residentie Orkest, returns to The Hague for a spectacular program that explores the boundaries of the symphonic repertoire. The concert begins with John Adams' Short Ride in a Fast Machine —a thrilling, breathtaking ride in a sports car that's going way too fast, with brass and percussion increasing the speed and tension. This is followed by Willem Jeths' brand new Piano Concerto No. 3, written for the Residentie Orkest pianist Ellen Corver. With this work, Jeths proves once again why he is considered the godfather of Dutch composers. Willem Jeths himself wrote about his new work: "My third piano concerto, which I wrote for the wonderful pianist Ellen Corver, whom I have known for almost forty years, has been given the subtitleScorching Passions . Each of the three movements focuses on a different facet of human passion. The first movement is about the love of the irreconcilable, the 'steep', the ruthless. The second movement is the complete opposite, focusing on adoration and falling for dazzling beauty. In the third movement, we experience 'true love', but one that becomes fatal, so much so that death follows."
Bram Kortekaas wrote L'Élue (The Chosen One), a prelude to Stravinsky's Le Sacre du printemps. In this work, Kortekaas explores the inner world of a young woman who is at the center of a pagan spring ritual. This concert culminates in Stravinsky's revolutionary masterpiece itself, Le Sacre du printemps, in which the story of spring, sacrifice, and ecstasy is brought to life with an overwhelming soundscape. You have to experience this live at least once in your life!
