A Christmas classic full of celebration and tradition
Handel's Messiah

Celebrate the most festive days of the year with the Residentie Orkest's brand-new tradition. Each year, we select one of The Hague's exceptional choirs for our Christmas performance of Handel's Messiah. This year, we're partnering with the Royal Choir Excelsior, active since 1881. They'll bring to life the story of Christ's birth, suffering, death and resurrection: comforting, jubilant, moving and - during the famous Hallelujah - cathartic.
Handel's oratorio demonstrates how timeless music can be adapted to the tastes and resources of other eras without losing its essence. You'll experience that today, in the here and now, under the expert direction of the brilliant conductor Chloe Rooke. She'll lead both the choir and a quartet of outstanding young singers: soprano Nikki Treurniet, mezzo-soprano Nina van Essen, tenor Antonin Rondepierre and baritone Raoul Steffani. Together, we'll show that celebrating hope and redemption will never lose its relevance.
