This concert is part of the Symphonic Friday - Medium series.
Music transcends time and place - and tonight, it'll take you on an unforgettable journey. The Residentie Orkest, with a full orchestra, will guide you through France, Spain and England, three countries connected by water and history. We will treat you to music brimming with emotion, from sweeping, picturesque scenes to deeply moving moments.
The brilliant cellist Leonard Elschenbroich will perform Elgar's beloved Cello Concerto, with its rich, melancholic tones. Composed after the devastating First World War, which tore the British Empire apart, Elgar poured his heart and soul into this intimate yet powerful piece. Then, the orchestra will expand tonight's soundscape with Debussy's Images, a lush and impressionistic work that evokes vivid scenes of streets and roads, the colours of night and the sparkling anticipation of the morning before a celebration. Our chief conductor will bring the evening to a close with Ravel's Boléro, the endlessly captivating rhythm of the Spanish dance building to a thrilling finale.
