Dvořák composed his Ninth Symphony "From the New World" in New York. Downright innovative was his inspiration to combine American traditionals with Western classical music. The result? Melodies so catchy that the symphony has nestled itself forever in the collective musical memory. The Residentie Orkest makes the work shine like new.

Dvořák drew inspiration from spirituals and indigenous music. Or are these European melodies with an American soul? In fact, it doesn't matter. The themes are universal and musically so appealing that you whistle them on your way home. Not for nothing has the work become part of the so-called iron repertoire.

The combination of conductor Pablo González, praised for his passionate approach, and soloist Julia Hagen promises something for Schumann's Cello Concerto. The Volkskrant praised the young Austrian cellist's "boldness and spunk" and the "warm sound and hushed intensity" of her playing. The refined Cello Concerto is bound to sparkle even more than usual.
