An ode to nature
Beethoven's Pastoral Symphony

This concert is part of the Symphonic Friday - Small series.
Tonight you will hear the Hague premiere of Dance – the highly acclaimed cello concerto by British composer Anna Clyne. As one of the most performed contemporary composers, she drew her inspiration from the mystical verses of Persian poet Rumi. The work’s five movements – focusing on themes such as loss, love and acceptance – demonstrate her ability to translate deep human emotions into music. Cellist Camille Thomas does full justice to the poetic power of the piece.
Next to Clyne's magical sounds is Beethoven's Sixth Symphony , also known as the Pastoral . This symphony, a tribute to the peace and beauty of nature, is a milestone in the classical repertoire. Beethoven evokes emotions and shows that the sublime can also be hidden in peace and simplicity. The Austrian conductor David Danzmayr, known for his precise and expressive approach, makes his debut with the Residentie Orkest Together, Clyne's introspective Dance and Beethoven's lively Pastorale form a programme in which reflection and the power of nature take centre stage.
