An ode to nature
Beethoven's Pastoral Symphony

This concert is part of the Symphonic Friday - Small series.
Tonight will mark the Dutch premiere of Dance, the highly acclaimed cello concerto by British composer Anna Clyne. One of the most performed contemporary composers, Clyne drew inspiration from the mystical poems of the Persian poet Rumi. The work's five movements, exploring themes of loss, love and acceptance, showcase her ability to translate deeply human emotions into music. Cellist Camille Thomas will bring its poetic power to life for us tonight.
Following Clyne's magical soundscape is Beethoven's Symphony No. 6, also known as the Pastoral Symphony. A tribute to the peace and beauty of nature, this symphony is a landmark in the classical repertoire. Beethoven evokes powerful emotions, showing that the sublime can be found in tranquility and simplicity. Austrian conductor David Danzmayr, known for his precise and expressive style, will make his debut with the Residentie Orkest with this concert. Together, Clyne's introspective Dance and Beethoven's vibrant Pastoral Symphony make for a musical programme that celebrates reflection and the power of nature.
