Sunday morning music for the soul
At the Residentie Orkest , discover the magic of Sunday morning: a time to escape, relax and enjoy mind-blowing compositions. This morning a completely forgotten (read: lost) piece by Joseph Haydn - the Cello Concerto in D that surfaced in a library in Prague in 1961 and is now one of the most famous and beloved cello concertos. A typical work from the rococo period: light, elegant and bright, in which a lyrical cello is supported by the orchestra. Fast passages, double stops, high notes and cadences - Haydn's mastery speaks for itself.
With good reason, this piece of music is one of the most beloved works for the cello: all the virtuosity and expressiveness of this instrument fills the hall. Our artist in residence, Jean-Guihen Queyras is ready to pay tribute to this masterpiece. He once again meets Anja Bihlmaier - she conducts her Last concert today as our chief conductor. You will also hear how grandmasters Richard Strauss and Maurice Ravel interpret the waltz. While Der Rosenkavalier suite embraces the lush romanticism of early Viennese modernism, one of the most spectacular orchestral works, La Valse, offers a more disruptive view, symbolizing the turmoil and uncertainty of the interwar period.
