Tchaikovsky & Dvořák
Unfortunately, this concert has already taken place. But not to worry! We will be playing many more concerts soon.
Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet and Dvořák's Cello Concerto with Queyras
Exceptional cello virtuoso Jean-Guihen Queyras shines in Dvořák's legendary Cello Concerto. Conducted by Kerem Hasan, the Residentie Orkest also plays Tchaikovsky's appealing fantasy overture Romeo and Juliet.
In the hands of top cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras, Dvořák's cello concerto, as compelling as it is famous, sounds like never before. It is considered perhaps the most popular cello concerto ever and is on the repertoire of every self-respecting cellist. Queyras recorded the demanding work early in his career and has since brought it to his name in widely acclaimed performances with the world's best orchestras.
Tonight, under the direction of Kerem Hasan, the Residentie Orkest performs the ever-popular romantic poem about the famous love couple Romeo and Juliet. Tchaikovsky does not follow Shakespeare's story literally, but he does conjure up the poignant love story, from the passionate love scenes and quarrels between the two rival families to the inevitable tragic end.
