Composer Klaas de Vries's 80th birthday
Spectacularly Symphonic
This season, one of Holland's great composers, Klaas de Vries, celebrates his 80th birthday. One of his latest works, Cada Instante, will have its world premiere tonight. Expect a huge orchestra, with huge sound. De Vries' eclectic, experimental approach to music transforms classical sound into a sound world all his own. Tonight you will also hear Kurtag's deep, reflective Stele and Beethoven's expressive Fourth Piano Concerto.
As many as 115 musicians on stage at Amare, that has never been seen before. For this we are inviting energetic and young talent to join us (and celebrate the evening larger than life): the charismatic conductor Chloe Rooke as well as the talents of the Royal Conservatory. Also tonight, Dutch pianist Hannes Minnaar crawls into Beethoven's hands to play the innovative Fourth Piano Concerto. The cadenzas of this piano concerto were written by Klaas de Vries. As a prelude to this special evening, you will hear Stele, by one of the greatest composers of our time: Gyorgy Kurtag.
This concert is in cooperation with Festival Dag in de Branding.
