RO NOW
Bruch & Mendelssohn
A Scottish evening
This RO NOW is all about Scotland. The rugged landscape made such an indelible impression on Bruch and Mendelssohn that they had to capture it in music. Can you hear the clarinet and oboe imitating the bagpipes?
The melancholy violin opens Max Bruch's Scottish fantasy. You feel the nostalgia for the open sky and wet grass. The violin virtuoso Paul Huang leads lush sounds, ever more vivid and lilting across the highlands. He is a close musical friend of our returning guest conductor - and incoming principal conductor - Jun Märkl. Mendelssohn's Third Symphony is also an ode to Scottish impetuosity. You hear the clash of arms of warriors and see the mud from horses' hooves flying through the air. Here and there you also recognize folk melodies, with playful rhythms and the necessary lyricism.
RO NOW opens your ears, expands your view and deepens your taste.
On this night, immerse yourself in the in the best symphonic music. Short & sweet. With an enlightening intro by presenter (ánd concert pianist) Christiaan Kuyvenhoven about the piece, illustrated by the orchestra with examples. That way you hear more while listening. Afterwards you can hang out in the foyer where the beers are cold. The first drink is ours!
