RO NOW
Brahms's Symphony No. 1

Unfortunately, this concert has already taken place. But not to worry! We will be playing many more concerts soon.
The best classical music, short and sweet!
RO NOW adds luster to your weekend. Treat yourself to musical masterpieces that will make your ears perk up. With an illuminating intro by the conductor beforehand, illustrated by the orchestra with a few examples. That way you feel and experience more while listening. This edition: Johannes Brahms worked for more than twenty years on his First Symphony and escaped Beethoven's shadow by composing a picture-perfect homage to his Ninth .
How do you succeed the greatest master of your time? Brahms was careful and honorable. You can honestly say that the First Symphony was forged, again and again, polished and rubbed until the composer was sure. There is no denying his own stamp: innovative and compelling with a wide range of orchestral colors and textures. Brahms used a variety of chords, modulations and counterpoint to give the symphony a rich and subtle sound that was at times surprising and unexpected. Our regular guest conductor Jun Märkl does justice to all the nuances, conflicts and resolutions in the composition. And further tonight: Mathilde Wauters on the harp during Debussy's contrasting Danse sacrée et danse profane .
