Join us on an uninterrupted journey past beautifully sounding musical works in a historic setting. Each concert with a special musical theme. Tonight romantic letters and poetry that inspired composers to create the most beautiful music.
Enter the world of Romanticism, where music and poetry go hand in hand. Schubert was often inspired by poems by Goethe as the Mignon songs sung tonight show, adapted for soprano and string quartet by German composer Aribert Reimann. One of Dvořák's first compositions was a song cycle to poems by a Czech compatriot in which he was able to express his unfulfilled romantic feelings for an actress. He later managed to turn this emotional music into a heavenly string quartet, some parts of which will be played tonight. Romanticism also resonates with Max Reger and Julius Röntgen. Not only in their music, but also in their letters. Sometimes cheerful, sometimes worrisome, often exchanging musical ideas. The German-Dutch composer Julius Röntgen wrote with Johannes Brahms and Edvard Grieg. Röntgen's Piano Quintet No. 2, his very last composition, is a wonderfully romantic work.
