St Matthew Passion in Leiden
Every year around Easter, several performances of Bach's oratorio are held in the Pieterskerk Leiden. The Pieterskerk Leiden is pleased with increasing attention: from all over the country, enthusiasts come to Leiden to enjoy this highlight of musical history in the beautiful setting of the Gothic church.
In 2025 the Residentie Orkest The Hague, the Netherlands Chamber Choir, and the Haags Matrozenkoor will perform the Matthäus at the invitation of the Pieterskerk Leiden. The Netherlands Chamber Choir has been a household name for over eighty years and has been at the world's top for decades. With the Weihnachts Oratorium the Netherlands Chamber Choir made furore in recent years in the Pieterskerk Leiden: the concerts draw full houses and garnered praise from press and public. The renowned Residentie Orkest Den Haag proves that symphonic music is also in the 21st century for a large and wide audience of great significance. The whole ensemble is conducted by conductor Richard Egarr.
