Few works are as grand as Mahler's Symphony No. 5. This musical epic guides the listener from death back to life, overcoming struggles and enduring pain to culminate in a beautiful tribute to love. It pairs beautifully with Bruch's romantic Violin Concerto No. 1. Featuring the amazing Simone Lamsma, this will be one of the highlights of the season.

Our former artist in residence Simone Lamsma is a violin virtuoso. Tonight, she will perform Max Bruch's captivating Violin Concerto No. 1, which shines like a diamond in these dark - and, let's not forget, romantic - days of winter. Mahler's Symphony No. 5 also evokes emotion: the composer wrote the famous Adagietto for his wife Alma. Mahler himself said of his symphony, "Each note is brimming with vitality, spinning as if in a whirlwind. There is nothing romantic or mystical about it. It is a human being in the full light of day, in the prime of his life."

"Music is about emotions, it's up to us to translate all that wonderful repertoire as engagingly as possible."
