Join us on an uninterrupted journey past beautifully sounding musical works in a historic setting. Each concert features a special musical theme. Tonight, top violinist Shunske Sato returns to the Residentie Orkest with Viennese classics by Haydn and Beethoven.
A little composer used to head to Vienna. The place to be for musicians. Music history was written there for centuries. For example, by Haydn who spent a significant part of his musical life in Vienna. His dramatic cantata Arianna a Naxos even opened the doors to London. Cherubini came to Vienna by invitation, met Haydn and Beethoven and received a commission for an opera. Although enthusiastically received, Faniska did not become a keeper although the overture is delightfully sparkling and energetic. Finally, the versatile Shunske Sato brings Beethoven's sprightly Second Symphony: compelling, grand and full of surprises.
