Colorful stories
Stravinsky's Firebird
Unfortunately, this concert has already taken place. But not to worry! We will be playing many more concerts soon.
Top German-French cellist Nicolas Altstaedt returns to the Residentie Orkest. He will make Shostakovich's powerful and colorful First Cello Concerto sound as it was intended: passionate, lyrical and expressive. Also colorful are the three symphonic stories that regular guest conductor Jun Märkl brings to life: Stravinsky's suite from the famous ballet music The Firebird, Mussorgsky's fairy tale Night on the Bald Mountain and Sinfonia III 'Facetten' by Lex van Delden.
To start with that Last : we finally hear again a work by the almost forgotten Dutch composer Lex van Delden. Colorful harmonies and an expressive melody alternate in his Sinfonia III 'Facetten'. Strings and wind instruments palpably heighten the tension as they accompany Mussorgsky's witches up the mountain on their way to the devil. Finally, our regular guest conductor Jun Märkl tells you a musical fable. With varying melodies and staccato rhythms, he brings Stravinsky's Firebird to a powerful climax.
