Tonight, guest conductor Antony Hermus conducts music whose score is still wet with ink. Sebastian Fagerlund composed his Triple Concerto 'Lanterna' especially for the Storioni Trio as well as the Residentie Orkest . The Finn is known as a postmodern impressionist of soundscapes, very ecstatic and innovative. Beethoven, in his time, was also quite something. With his Eroica he stretched all possible musical boundaries to the point where we slip directly into Romanticism.

Western and Asian influences can be heard in the tough and yet vulnerable work of the Finnish composer Fagerlund. The Storiono Trio is one of the world's leading piano trios. Violinist in the trio is our own concertmaster Wouter Vossen. Thus all musical lines come together nicely tonight at the Dutch premiere of the Trio concerto. Guest conductor Antony Hermus ends heroically with Beethoven's beloved Eroica, the first Romantic symphony and one of the most played worldwide. Originally dedicated to Napoleon, until Beethoven discovered that the general was fighting mostly self-interest. With a furious stroke of his pen, he undid the commission.

"A trailblazing, mammoth masterpiece, glorifying the life of a great heroic figure. The best symphony of all time has to be the Eroica."

- BBC Music Magazine

"A Dutch premiere tonight: the Triple Concerto written by Finnish composer Sebastian Fagerlund for the Storioni Trio. Contemporary composers use the same twelve notes that occur throughout musical history, but you hear the sound of today. The resonance of what is going on in today's society."
