The Residentie Orkest The Hague, one of the most innovative orchestras in the Netherlands, is proving more than ever that symphonic music is also meaningful to a large and broad audience in the 21st century. The orchestra is based in Amare, the new educational and cultural complex, in the heart of The Hague. In addition to the symphonic canon, the orchestra also performs new works and crossover programs. The orchestra is frequently heard on the major stages in the Netherlands and various venues abroad. In the orchestra's rich history, conductors such as Hans Vonk, Evgeny Svetlanov, Jaap van Zweden, Neeme Järvi, Nicholas Collon and Anja Bihlmaier have served as principal conductors with the internationally operating ensemble.
Jun Märkl has been chief conductor since summer 2025.Richard Egarr is attached to the orchestra as permanent guest conductor and Chloe Rooke is attached to the Residentie Orkest as emerging artist in residence until summer 2027.
One of the spearheads in the ambitions of the Residentie Orkest is its educational policy. Every year, more than 30,000 school children participate in educational projects, making Residentie Orkest the driving force behind music education in The Hague. To this end, the orchestra has developed an educational and social program for all ages, with which Residentie Orkest contributes to social cohesion in The Hague.
The orchestra is invariably involved in important events such as the annual Throne Speech. Together with the residents of (greater) The Hague, the orchestra also celebrates holidays such as Christmas, New Year, King's Day, Prinsjesdag and Diwali. Important are the collaborations with The Hague and national partners such as Nationaal Theater, Amare, Nederlands Danstheater, Koninklijk Conservatorium, Paard, De Nationale Opera, Nederlandse Opera Academie and the broadcast series of AvroTros and NTR.
In addition, the orchestra works with numerous partners in the city as part of social activities with and for the community.

The function
As Associate concertmaster, you share responsibility for the realization of the orchestra's artistic ambitions and know how to motivate and inspire colleagues. You are also - partly - an interlocutor for them. You support the concertmaster in carrying out his task and are able to function in the first chair. You are available for educational and ensemble activities.
Job requirements
It goes without saying that you stand out as a violinist. We consider it essential that each colleague be an ambassador for our orchestra. In addition to collective stage activities, you will collaborate on educational and social activities and productions in ensemble. You are characterized as a positively engaged team player who is naturally flexible, diplomatic and possesses leadership qualities.

Trial play for this position will take place on Monday April 20 and Tuesday April 21, 2026. Required work:
Mozart: From Violin Concerto No. 4 (KV 218) or No. 5 (KV 219) 1st movement without cadenza;
Choice of romantic violin concerto (1st movement without cadenza): Beethoven, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Sibelius or Mendelssohn;
Tempo di Borea from Partita 1 for violin solo by J.S. Bach;
First violin part from 1st movement of Beethoven's string quartet op. 18 No. 1 (to be played with members of the Residentie Orkest for the final test play candidates);
orchestral parts yet to be determined.

The Residentie Orkest The Hague, one of the most innovative orchestras in the Netherlands, is proving more than ever before the importance of symphonic music for a large and diverse audience, in our current time. The orchestra is based in Amare, the new educational and cultural complex in the heart of The Hague. In addition to the symphonic canon, the orchestra also regularly performs new work and cross-over programs. The orchestra can be heard in the major concert halls in the Netherlands and at a range of foreign venues. During its rich history, the orchestra has been led by chief conductors such as Hans Vonk, Yevgeny Svetlanov, Jaap van Zweden, Neeme Järvi, Nicholas Collon and Anja Bihlmaier.
Since summer 2025, Jun Märkl holds the position of chief conductor. Richard Egarr is the orchestra's principal guest conductor and Chloe Rooke the emerging artist in residence.
The Residentie Orkest maintains a prominent presence in the city, next to the extensive concert series in Amare the orchestra is playing open air concerts and provides educational projects at innumerable schools. The orchestra has an established involvement in important events such as the annual Throne Speech (King's Speech). The orchestra also celebrates major public holidays alongside the population of The Hague and surrounding area, with concerts at Christmas, New Year, King's Day, Prince's Day and Diwali. Collaborations with local and national partners such as the Dutch National Theatre, pop venue Paard, Dutch National Opera, the Dutch National Opera Academy and the AvroTros and NTR broadcasting series are just as important.
The orchestra works alongside numerous partners in the city on social activities with and for the community.

The position
As associate concertmaster, you will be partially responsible for realizing the orchestra's artistic ambitions and you'll readily be able to motivate and inspire your colleagues. You will also be a point of contact for them. You will support the concertmaster in the performance of his work and will also be comfortable in occupying the first chair. You will also be adaptable for educational and ensemble activities.
