The Residentie Orkest has an immediate vacancy for a:
Education Officer (32 hours per week / 0.8 fte)

The orchestra is always looking for the relevance of music in a contemporary, young and fresh way. 

One of the spearheads in the ambitions of the Residentie Orkest is education. Every year more than 40,000 students participate in educational projects, making the Residentie Orkest the driving force behind music education in The Hague. To this end, the orchestra has developed an education and outreach program for all ages, through which the Residentie Orkest kest contributes to social cohesion in The Hague. 

For the Education Department, we are looking for a short-term: 

Education Officer (32 hours per week / 0.8 fte)

The department 

The Education Department consists of 5 colleagues employed by the Residentie Orkest: 1 Head of Department, 3 Associates and a Producer. Around this, use is made of a flexible shell of freelance staff, mainly music teachers. The Education Department falls under the Artistic Director and is managed by the Head of Education. 

The function

The Associate Educator we are looking for is partly responsible for the implementation of the educational policy of the Residentie Orkest and within this, has the specific role of project leader for the project The Residents, the learning orchestras of The Hague.   

That means coordinating The Residents. That includes: 

  • Maintain contacts with schools, teachers, parents and site managers 

  • Attract and mentor (new) teachers 

  • Provide and/or organize training meetings for teachers 

  • Networking with similar initiatives and cultural anchors 

  • Instrument management and logistics 

  • Providing content for social media 

  • Organizing major concerts in cooperation with partners. 

  • Providing content for project plans and evaluations 

You are involved in the organisation and implementation of the various educational activities, including related administrative work and co-develop new educational activities, including the development of teaching materials and the creation of arrangements. 

Job Requirements

  • College level education in music and education, music teacher is a plus; 

  • Demonstrated experience working with groups; 

  • Knowledge of the development of children ages 0 - 18; 

  • Knowledge of the development of the subject of music in primary and secondary education; 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the music and orchestra world; 

  • Proficient with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Sibelius; 

  • Good command of both the Dutch and English language in word and writing. 

  • Proactive and representative; 

  • Team player.

What do we offer? 

  • A challenging position in a dynamic environment in the cultural heart of The Hague 

  • A one-year contract with the prospect of a permanent contract  

  • Your salary will be up to €4,330 gross per month for a 40-hour work week   

  • You will also receive (for full-time employment) 47 vacation days, 8% vacation allowance and a year-end bonus of 8.25% 

  • Ability to work partially from home as work allows 

  • A staff arrangement for attending Residentie Orkest concerts
