The Residentie Orkest is a leading symphony orchestra with more than 120 years of history. Besides performing a broad and challenging repertoire in its own hall Amare and other important venues in the Netherlands, the orchestra plays an active role in the city of The Hague. With educational programs, talent development and social projects, the orchestra is constantly looking for ways to connect with a wide audience. Deputy Director of Public & Market
The feature:
The role of Deputy Director of Audience & Market is new and plays a key role in strengthening the financial and audience strategies of the Residentie Orkest. The person in this position will develop and implement a long-term strategy for raising their own revenue and contribute to the growth of the orchestra's network. In this role, you will have the opportunity to further position the orchestra as a leading cultural player in The Hague and beyond.
The Residentie Orkest strives to strengthen the cultural connection in The Hague through strategic collaborations, innovative marketing efforts and a growing network of partners and sponsors. You will work closely with the Managing Director and be part of the executive team along with the Deputy Director of Operations. In this role, you will lead the Development & Relations (D&R) team and the Head of Marketing & Communications (M&C), ensuring alignment of strategies and execution in the area of own revenue.
This position aims to further increase the orchestra's impact by generating additional revenue on the one hand and expanding its reach on the other.
Responsibilities:
Strategy Development and Implementation: To further develop the revenue development strategy (third money stream) and successfully implement the objectives.
Leadership and team coaching: Leading the Development & Relations team (4 employees) and the Head of Marketing & Communications, providing coaching and ensuring their professional growth.
Relationship Management: Maintain and expand relationships with key funds, sponsors, and cultural partners. It is essential to develop strong, lasting relationships that help increase financial support for the orchestra.
Optimization of support structures: To further strengthen support structures such as the Friends Association, Fund RO and Club RO.
Marketing and Communications: Review marketing and communications strategies for degree of deployment and effectiveness, in close consultation with the head of M&C, aimed at increasing visibility, audience reach and revenue from ticket sales, donations and fundraising.
Budget Management: bearing responsibility for the budget of the D&R department and ensuring the achievement of financial objectives from the third source of funds.
You bring:
Fundraising Experience: Demonstrated experience in various forms of fundraising in the nonprofit sector, preferably within the cultural sector. This includes attracting major donations, sponsorships and other forms of financial support.
Strong Network: Experience in building, maintaining and expanding a broad and relevant network of cultural, business and private partners.
Leadership and Team Coaching: Minimum of several years of experience in a leadership role, preferably in a team with diverse areas of focus. Ability to coach and develop a team of young and relatively inexperienced employees is essential.
Commercial acumen: Able to see and capitalize on commercial opportunities, with a solid understanding of marketing and communications at a strategic level.
Communication skills: Strong communication skills in both Dutch and English, with the ability to communicate effectively at various levels within and outside the organisation.
Politically-sensitive and diplomatic: Able to effectively navigate a complex and political environment, both internally and externally, where a balance between business acumen and commitment is crucial.
We are looking for:
The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with practical experience in the cultural sector, particularly in fundraising. You have proven successes in fundraising and know how to manage and develop a team effectively. You have a strong network and are able to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders in a diplomatic and connecting way. In addition, you are flexible, innovative and able to make an impact both at the strategic level and in day-to-day execution. You understand the unique dynamics of an orchestra and the cultural sector and have experience developing long-term strategies. You have an eye for the orchestra's cultural values and know how to translate them into sustainable revenue streams

Salary and benefits: A 0.8 FTE position in scale 14, with a salary of
Up to €8,431 gross per month for a 40-hour work week.
You will also receive (for full-time employment) 47 vacation days, 8% vacation allowance and a
year-end bonus of 8.25%.
Ability to work partially from home as work permits.
A staff arrangement for attending concerts of the Residentie Orkest.
