Stories that warm the heart
Music, meals, and socializing at the winter shelter
On Wednesday evening, January 21, the doors of the permanent winter shelter in the former Red Cross hospital will open for a special evening full of stories and music. In collaboration with the Salvation Army, the Residentie Orkest Haags Verhaal, an intimate gathering will take place where listening takes center stage: listening to counselors, volunteers, and residents of the winter shelter.
During this winter gathering, visitors will join in for a communal meal and be transported by personal stories from a place that is a temporary home for many. The winter shelter provides accommodation for eighty people who would otherwise spend the night in the woods or in a cold parking garage. Here they receive guidance, take steps towards (volunteer) work and, sometimes for the first time in a long time, build a future perspective again. For a number of residents, the shelter even means a bridge to a place of their own, preventing a return to the streets.
The stories are accompanied by music performed by musicians from the Residentie Orkest, which contributes to this event as part of its social program Symphony 2030. Haags Verhaal connects the different voices and experiences into an evening that touches, deepens, and connects.
Admission is based on a donation (on site, also by debit card) and goes entirely to the Salvation Army.
