From classroom to Concert Hall: a week filled with Christmas sounds

Playing together makes everything more enjoyable—and you can hear it.

The Christmas concerts took place at the schools as the conclusion of The Residents project. Auditoriums, gyms, and classrooms were temporarily transformed into atmospheric concert stages. Students showed off what they had learned over the past period. For many, it was a special moment: playing in front of an audience for the first time, making music together, and feeling the excitement that comes with it. Their enthusiasm was palpable, and the joy with which they played was contagious for everyone in the room.

The music could also be heard outside the schools. The City Orchestra gave a warm and atmospheric Christmas concert in Theater De Vaillant during the Social Table. This afternoon was not only about music, but above all about connection. The Christmas atmosphere and listening together created a moment of encounter and shared experience.

What this week showed above all is how much the students have developed during the music lessons.

The Residents Academy held its Christmas concert at the grandstand stairs in Amare. This unique location added an extra dimension to the performance. Familiar and lesser-known Christmas melodies rang out among the building's open architecture, performed by students who were clearly enjoying the moment. The audience gathered on the stairs and let themselves be carried away by the music.

What this week showed above all else is how much the students have developed during their music lessons. Not only technically, but also in terms of self-confidence, presentation, and ensemble playing. Making music together requires listening and cooperation—and that is precisely what was evident during all the concerts. The joy with which they played underscored how valuable these lessons are.

The Christmas concerts were a festive conclusion to the first part of the school year. They showed how music brings people together: young and old, players and listeners, students and teachers. With proud faces and enthusiastic reactions, we look back on a successful and musical week.
