Looking back on two impressive performances during The Hague Women's Days
Last Saturday , March Saturday , was all about women's rights, art, and inspiring stories—with two special programs that made a deep impression.
🎻 Afternoon program at Muzee
At Muzee, we enjoyed an inspiring afternoon focusing on women's rights, identity, and clothing, inspired by the exhibition Draad en Dracht(Thread and Dress). This exhibition shows how clothing is not only cultural heritage, but also a powerful tool for social and political emancipation—in the Netherlands and worldwide.
The Residentie Orkest a wonderful performance featuring works by female composers from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. In an interview, violinist Azadeh Maghsoodi shared her personal perspective on the position of women in Iran and spoke about themes such as freedom of dress and human rights. Art and social themes came together in an impressive way.

🎬 Evening program at Zandvliet College: Documentary & Music
In the evening, the Alfa Wave Foundation organized a film and music program as part of International Women's Day. With a full house, we experienced an intense and inspiring evening.
The documentary Cutting Through Rocks follows Iranian power woman Sara Shahverdi, the first female council member in her remote village. The film shows her struggle against patriarchal norms, her commitment to girls' education, and her courage to break boundaries, sometimes even literally—by secretly teaching girls how to ride motorcycles.
The program was reinforced by:
🎶 impressive music by female composers (Wegener, Smith, Clarke & Hyde)
🎻 Emotional Iranian music by Azadeh Maghsoodi (Residentie Orkest), also an activist for Women, Life, Freedom
💬 A lively Q&A with experts Daniela Stojkovic, Nahied Rezwani, and Hera Butt
Thanks to the partners of the Residentie Orkest made these RO in the city possible: Rabobank The Hague, Fonds 1818, Fonds RO. And many thanks to the (social) partners with whom we organized this: Muzee Scheveningen, Tamara Peers, Inger Sala. Stichting Alfa Wave, Desi Dakova.
The photos were taken by Leontien Kröner (Muzee) and De Schaapjesfabriek (Zandvliet College).
